Measure the same way

Lay the garment flat without stretching it. Measure the inside leg from the crotch seam intersection to the finished hem. Use the same method for a pair whose length you already like. A body measurement and a garment measurement are not interchangeable.

What this number leaves out

The result is the change in finished length, not a cutting instruction. A tailor must account for the hem allowance, existing fold, seam finish and leg shape. If the target is longer than the current measurement, spare fabric would be needed; this tool cannot establish whether the garment has it.

Try the trousers on with the intended shoes. Follow the garment’s care label before making a permanent alteration, particularly if you have not yet laundered it. Do not shorten a child’s trouser solely from an age label.
